On 11th August we were treated to a fascinating guided walk in Brandon Wood. We were led by Andrew Ireland who, a few days earlier, had given an interesting talk on the subject at our monthly general meeting. Andrew's passion and commitment to this beautiful woodland just outside Coventry was apparent to all. Andrew takes a leading role in The Friends of Brandon Wood, who own and manage the wood as a charity. The organisation is run entirely by volunteers, their object being to conserve and enhance the woodland and its flora and fauna, for recreation, leisure and educational purposes. Examples of the volunteers' work to transform a historically commercial woodland to one that encourages diversity were pointed out. We also looked at notable tree specimens and examples of footpath improvement.
